Physical Education Rules and Expectations

* At Burns Middle School Appropriate Behavior is an expectation to ensure the safety and inclusion of all students in a productive learning environment; therefore inappropriate language, gestures and actions are prohibited. Examples of such inappropriate actions include:

·         Running through the locker room (playing chase in the locker room); physical altercations including shoving and fighting; screaming or bullying another student and the use of obscene language toward another student

·         Name calling and spreading rumors are also inappropriate language because both are hurtful to another person.

Students are required to dress out and participate unless the student has a note from a Parent or a Doctor. A parent note is good for 3 days if necessary and a doctor’s note is good for time specified by the doctor. Students will still be expected to dress out if able when using a note for non-participation.

The PE Uniform Policy Is:

Warm Weather: Blue Burns M.S. Shorts and Grey Burns M.S. T-shirt; socks and tennis shoes (any brand)

Winter Weather: Blue, White or Grey Sweats (Wind pants are permitted provided they do not have snaps that run down the legs as these openings may get caught on equipment and result in damage to the pants).

When students choose not to follow the dress code or improperly behave in the locker room or PE area, they will be subject to the following discipline steps:

            STEP 1: Verbal Warning

STEP 2: A required writing of the Code of Conduct (to reinforce the

              expectations within the school setting)

STEP 3: Parent Contact by phone, letter, or email

            STEP 4: Office Referral

Your student will be given a daily grade. The total grade will be based on 50% participation and 50% dressing out.

5 points per day will be given for participation

5 points per day for dressing out: Shorts/Sweatpants -3pts, Shirt – 1pt, Shoes – 1pt
