•b Sept. 8th was the last day for students to eat on last year's lunch application. If your child needs an application please see Mrs. Tarver the cafeteria manager.
•b Attendance period Sept 8th till Oct 5th we need as many students possible to attend school. If we do not have at least 95% attendance for that 20 day period we will not make AYP(Annual Yearly Progress) and not be considered in "Clear" status. As of today, 9-14-09 we are averaging 94.08 present at school after 5 days.
•b The Explore Test was given to all 8th graders last week. This is a great opportunity to see your child's readiness for college. The test results will give academic strengths and weaknesses along with career interest and possible career choices that fit their academic strengths and interest. Results will be coming home in late October. This test is similar to the college entrance exam ACT.

•b Become a Target Store donor - When purchasing items with your target card tell the cashier that you want to donate to Burns Middle. The received a check last month for the school year 2008-09 for $79.00.
•b 2010 Census report is coming! The US government counts the number of US citizens every 10 years. In 2010 the Census report only has 10 questions and only takes a few minutes to complete. Please become part of the Census process and take the time to complete the survey. Federal funds for roads, bridges and other federal projects are allocated to States according to the Census report and population estimates. In 2000, the last Census report, only 66% of Mobile County residents completed the survey.
•b NJHS nominations - nominations for National Junior Honor Society are going on now! Make sure your child fills out the nomination application, teacher recommendations, and service hours. Inductions Oct. 16th 8:30am
