October's great writer! Darren Tate

                                                                                        My Hero

                                                               By Darren Tate

In Mobile, Alabama lived a young girl named Dasia.  She couldn't walk or see.  Dasia would just fall because she didn't have the strength in her left leg.  She couldn't see because her eyes were crossed.  Sometimes Dasia would see doubles or couldn't see at all.  At one point Dasia couldn't stand up. Yes, my sister Dasia was a very smart girl who made all "A's".  Then her grades began to fall.

My mom took my sister in for some tests.  It took about a week for the tests to come back.  The doctors said,  "She has brain cancer.  Dasia and Kayla were at the YMCA when  my mom arrived.  She was so upset she snatched Dasia up faster than lighting and forgot all about Kayla my other sister. Mom went straight to the doctor's office.  They sat down and told my mom Dasia only has three months to live. My sister was immediately sent to St. Judes Children's Hospital.

I loved  my mom so much. At that time my sister Kayla had kidney problems; she couldn't walk.  Then my granddad died. I thought my mom was going to throw something.  I couldn't sleep because I was afraid of my sister's death. She was only 8 years old. Next I had growing pains so I had to stay in  the hospital.

Dasia Atkinson to this day is still the only person who has lived this long.  She is 11 now. My sister is my "Hero".  She has been fighting cancer for 3 years and her brain cancer has gotten smaller.  They had to take off her      .

Dasia still goes to St. Judes every two months.  My sister Dasia is truly my  hero.
